I came to Bodysense Studio nearly a number of years ago after trying many different types of exercise looking for the best fit for me. I’ve done the gym, cross-fit, running and other reformer Pilates.
I have achieved results (physically & mentally) with Classical Pilates that I haven’t got anywhere else. My muscles are leaner & more flexible, my curved-over-desk back is gone and I can maintain perfect posture without even trying and without pain.
The mental focus required just takes Classical Pilates to another level. There’s definitely no time to think about anything else going on in your life, so you do leave a class feeling refreshed and energised.
For 8 years I was needing monthly deep-tissue massages to release stress tension in my back and neck. No more!! Working with Gen at Bodysense has kept my spine supple and free of tension and pain.
Having found that Classical Pilates is the best fit for me, I decided to do my instructor training with Bodysense. Working with clients is inspiring, challenging and keeps me on my toes.

I first came to Bodysense Pilates Studio in May 2019 after my doctor recommended reformer Pilates for some lower back pain I was suffering. Having already met Gen through my own business, I immediately made an appointment for her free taster and progressed into regular sessions from there.
I love how Pilates requires me to be present in the moment. I have to focus and concentrate and listen to cues to receive the best session available to me. It really is me time. The method works amazingly well with often small movements and low reps. It’s hard work but thoroughly enjoyable. It’s not like anything I’ve ever done before. My body has toned, lengthened and become far more supple.
Breathing through pursed lips “whistle it out!”, engaging abdominal muscles, without having to think about it, is a powerful and effective concept. Joseph Pilates was before his time and he would be so proud to see how Pilates benefits so many.
I was so pleased with the results and I fell in love with Pilates. Within a year I discussed becoming an instructor with Gen and signed up for basic training. After a crazy year with Covid-19 and other personal challenges, I passed my practical and theory exams in December 2020 and have begun intermediate training in February 2021.
I’m looking forward to learning as much as I can from Gen, the other instructors and the clients at Bodysense Pilates Studio so I can give back, as an instructor.

I love the fact that Pilates keeps me toned, strong and healthy.
I was born with a heart defect which means I have a very low tolerance for any type of cardio- based exercise. Basically, it means that when I exercise, or even something as simple as walking up flights of stairs or a hill, I get out of breath a lot sooner than someone with a normal heart and lung function.
So, when I discovered Pilates, it was like a breath of fresh air. This was a form of exercise I could do! One where technique is more important than speed and stamina. I was delighted to find that after a class I felt like I had worked every part of my body, but I wasn’t exhausted or out of breath.
Just as importantly, I find that when I am in class or even when I am practising at home, I am so focussed on what I am doing and on getting the technique right that I forget about all my day-to-day worries. So good for mindfulness!
I have been practicing Pilates consistently for four years now and on and off for about another five years before I joined BodySense Pilates. I love Pilates so much and I am so convinced of the benefits of regular practice for anyone, irrespective of any physical challenges they might have, that I decided to become a classical Pilates instructor.
I completed my basic instructor qualification and apprenticeship at the end of 2020 and am now working towards completing my intermediate qualifications and apprenticeship.
